Eco Packaging

Eco Packaging

One of my biggest goals for Scandiland in 2018 was to reduce the amount of waste we produce through packaging orders. I'm so pleased to introduce you to a couple of our newest packaging initiatives.

I spent a lot of time last year really frustrated about our packaging. It seemed like such a waste to use so much brand new paper, twine and sticky tape for each order knowing that it would be thrown away instantly.

I looked for packaging that could find a purpose in the home after the Scandi had arrived safe and sound. I finally settled on calico bags and was really excited to work with a local company to produce them, complete with the Scandiland logo.

We've received incredibly positive feedback from parents and kids and that makes me really happy! So far the bags have been used as:

  • Library bags,
  • Swimming bags
  • Toy storage
  • Daycare for sheets

As you probably already know, most of the clothing we stock is Scandinavian and generally comes from Europe. The garments are wrapped in plastic sleeves to protect them during shipping. The sleeves are often made from recycled materials and most of the time can also be recycled.

I've decided to reuse these sleeves as much as possible, especially for single item shipping. There may be tiny imperfections on the sleeves but it won't affect the function and the environment will thank you.

Both of these changes compliment our shipping satchels from Ecoenclose. We use these eco mailers because they are reusable, recyclable and are made from 100% recycled materials.

I hope that we can make an impact, even if it's only small. Every step counts, right?
